Today I feel… unemployed. That is the only appropriate ending here: righteous irony. Gianni Infantino has been humiliated, disgraced and exposed, but only through removing him entirely from this gross pantomime of his own creation can the most powerful governing body in sport move forward. No ifs, no buts, no distraction techniques. It is the only thing worth fighting for now.
When the European Super League idea was killed, English football missed a chance. The warm glow of victory from halting the progress of capitalist avarice allowed the plotters off the hook. If the lingering threat of the Super League disappeared, nobody paid the price for being caught in the act and nor did we really believe that they had changed. Life simply began to bob along again as normal.
That cannot happen here. Infantino’s rotten core has infected his organisation. We can never believe that he will change, see the error of his ways and become a benevolent leader. You cannot clip Infantino’s wings. His ego and ambition will not sit snugly into a small box with a locked lid. As such, he must be removed from office immediately.
Infantino is still dangerous – make no mistake. If you believe that he has abandoned all hope of this plan and will not have other potential irons in the same fire, I have some magic beans for sale and please be assured the beanstalks will be monstrous. More importantly: he does not deserve the second chance.
