Emergency crews in Lithuania responded to 56 incidents over the weekend after heavy rain and strong winds caused trees to fall on roads, vehicles and other locations, while dozens of residents were forced to leave storm-damaged homes.
The Fire and Rescue Department said firefighters carried out 34 storm-related operations Saturday and 22 on Sunday. The largest number of callouts was recorded in Vilnius county, where crews responded to 41 incidents.
Several rescue operations took place in the Vilnius district, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm.
On Sunday, firefighters were called to the village of Avižieniai, near Vilnius, where trees had fallen onto parked vehicles. Crews found large broken branches between two cars, a Seat Altea and an Opel Vectra, though neither vehicle suffered major damage. A fallen tree was also removed from a BMW in the same area.
In Vilnius city’s Pašilaičiai district, residents needed to be evacuated after storm damage made their home unsafe.
