Personal data on nearly 3,000 voters in Warwickshire has been leaked, in an incident the local authority is investigating.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said an administrative error was to blame.

On the night of 27 July, an email was sent to voters who had provided emails to the council’s elections team, asking them to check the accuracy of the information held for their address, as part of an annual canvass, the council said.

Sensitive data

Due to an “administrative error”, however, the email contained a link leading to information on thousands of people.
