Enter Casa Navira in Visakhapatnam, and you are greeted by a pair of stunning handcrafted brass doors that are finished in a warm antique-bronze hue. With geometric patterns representing the convergence of positive energies, these doors have a unique sculptural surface that lends them depth and movement. Weighing a whopping 150 kg each, these almost imposing 8-foot doors were designed around the architrave, which is crafted from marble and supported by a specially detailed metal framework. It gives the door a sense of scale, permanence and ceremony.

“The entrance was conceived not merely as a door, but as a complete architectural composition. The brass work on the door is completely handcrafted and executed by 10 skilled artisans who put in 600 man-hours of work,” says Yogesh Kumar, principal designer of Studio Sculpt, a multidisciplinary interior studio based in Chennai.Kumar explains that, as it was the main door, they wanted only the door and its handle to be visible, without conventional locks, keyholes or access-control devices interrupting the composition.“To achieve this, a fingerprint-access system was discreetly integrated into the architrave. It communicates with a sensor-operated locking mechanism concealed within the door and handle assembly. Each door is supported by three heavy-duty hinges designed to handle loads of more than 400 kg per door, providing additional strength, stability and long-term durability,” he adds.
