Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The top envoy for President Donald Trump's Board of Peace lamented Sunday that Israeli forces continued attacking Gaza despite Iran-backed Hamas agreeing last week to a disarmament framework.
"My team and I are working around the clock with the parties, the mediators and regional partners to de-escalate and create the space for the full implementation of the president's plan," Nickolay Mladenov, former minister of defense for Bulgaria and current director general of the Board of Peace, said in an online statement.
"Achieving a lasting peace is hard but achievable if everyone make their best efforts."
Trump on Thursday announced that his peace board reached a tentative agreement after months of negotiations secured a commitment from Hamas and other militant groups to disarm in Gaza on conditioned that Israel follows by withdrawing its troops from the enclave.
