ANAHEIM, Calif. — Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski called the Angel Stadium pitcher’s mound “awful” after his start Sunday in a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.Misiorowski was excellent overall, tossing seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out 10 batters. At one point, he retired 16 consecutive hitters. But on multiple occasions, he asked the grounds crew to tend to the mound near the area of his landing spot.“It was awful,” Misiorowski said. “It was probably one of the worst mounds I’ve had. It was dry. It was rock hard. … It was awful. It was bad.”Should we crown the Dodgers following the Skubal trade?Derek VanRiper and Eno SarrisWhen asked if it posed an injury risk, Misiorowski said, “Yeah, of course. There’s always an injury risk. Anytime that there’s something astray, it’s always a possibility.”Misiorowski first requested the grounds crew before he took the mound at the bottom of the third inning. In the second, he’d allowed an 0-2 single to Vaughn Grissom and a two-run homer to Wade Meckler.Misiorowski’s fastball velocity averaged 99.6 mph Sunday, down one full mile per hour from his season average. His slider velocity was down 2.1 mph.“The mound was a little slick for him,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “… I think it affected him.“He (could) call attention to it right when it affects you. That’s a good learning experience for him.”It wasn’t a topic of conversation in the Brewers’ clubhouse before Sunday’s game, Misiorowski said, noting that, at 6-foot-7, his landing spot is further down the mound than that of many of his teammates. It’s not rare for Misiorowski to ask grounds crews at visiting parks to address his landing spot, given that it’s anomalous. But Sunday was the most vocal he has been in his criticism.“I land so much further than most guys,” Misiorowski said. “They don’t really fix that part of the mound.”The Angels declined to comment on the matter.
