TACLOBAN CITY – For years, residents of Barugo, Leyte have relied on a small 10-bed public hospital that also serves patients from neighboring towns, stretching its limited resources.
Local officials believe that burden will soon ease after the SM Foundation donated a P4-million wellness hub that will bring primary healthcare services closer to thousands of residents, particularly children and senior citizens.
The foundation formally turned over the facility to the municipal government on July 30 during a simple ceremony attended by officials of the SM Foundation and the local government.
Mayor Aron Balais, a physician by profession, said the wellness hub is a welcome addition to the municipality’s healthcare system, benefiting not only Barugo’s more than 35,000 residents but also patients from nearby communities who regularly seek medical care in the town.
