The police on Sunday (August 2, 2026) arrested a man from Pollachi and his father in connection with the murder of a woman, whose body was found charred near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district on July 31. Palanimuthu (35), employee of a private company at Kinathukadavu, and his father Gurunathan (60) were arrested.Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy formed four special teams under Inspectors C. Vadivelkumar, Chandramohan, K. Selvan and T. Rajenthiraprasath after a completely charred corpse of a woman was found in a vacant land behind a private company at Sendrampalayam junction within the limits of Kinathukadavu police station on July 31.The special teams examined visuals from over 120 surveillance cameras in and around the scene of crime and confirmed Palanimuthu’s presence at the location on July 27. The police found that Palanimuthu and Sangeetha (30) of Zamin Kottampatti near Pollachi had been in a relationship for the past three years. Sangeetha, who separated from her husband, was residing alone in a house arranged by Palanimuthu at Kinathukadavu. Palanimuthu had allegedly been distancing himself from his wife, said the police.Investigations revealed that Palanimuthu and Sangeetha had frequent quarrels in the past six months as he suspected her of having an affair with another person. Palanimuthu allegedly stabbed Sangeetha to death on the night of July 27. He took the body to a deserted area near Sendrampalayam junction with the help of his father Gurunathan (60) and burnt it with petrol, in a bid to conceal her identity. The accused purchased loose petrol from a fuel station to burn the body, investigators found.The special teams supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police M.
