The PSP game 'Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-hen' is getting remastered.Bandai NamcoThe first of the two PlayStation Portable Super Robot Wars Z games is getting remastered, and I really cannot contain my excitement.While this is being touted as the first remaster for the Super Robot Wars series, that’s not technically true. This is because the original 1991 Game Boy game was remastered on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita back in 2014.Pedantics aside, this remaster of Super Robot Wars Z2: Hakai-hen is genuinely wonderful news. Following the very successful Super Robot Wars Z on the PlayStation 2, the series got two more entries on the PlayStation Portable before it jumped to the PlayStation 3.Hakai-hen was also followed by Saisei-hen, also on the PlayStation Portable, but there’s no word currently on whether that game will also get remastered. Hakai-hen’s mecha anime series lineup was also superb, with my beloved Dancouga included (shown below).Considering that this was originally a PlayStation Portable game, the intent to remaster this makes a lot of sense, as it’s one of the few more recent games that would benefit from an HD upgrade.Admittedly, I had hoped Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 would be remastered sooner, but apparently the Super Robot Wars Z2 series polled highly with fans.The other great piece of news is that, yes, this will get a localized release with multiple language support, something that the original PlayStation Portable version never had.This remaster will also use the engine from Super Robot Wars Y, or at least the UI, so it will be interesting to see how that will work out.For a long time, we’ve all been told that remastering the older Super Robot Wars games was extremely difficult, due to all the licensing and other costs involved. However, it seems that hurdle has finally been taken care of, and arguably one of the best games in the Super Robot Wars Z series is finally getting its remastered day in the sun.Follow me on X, Facebook , and YouTube.
