Roy's DX Chogokin VF-1S Valkyrie get's re-released on August 8.BigWest, Bandai SpiritsThe genuinely excellent range of DX Chogokin Macross toys will be getting Roy’s VF-1S re-released in a few days.While this “Revival” version is technically a re-release of the same toy from 2020, this version also comes with the rounded sausage fingers from the TV series as optional accessories.If you’re curious about the DX Chogokin range of Macross toys, especially those from the original TV series and movie, Do You Remember Love?, I reviewed the VF-1J some years back.Put simply, these toys are the best versions of Shoji Kawamori’s classic mecha designs, being fully transformable, full of diecast, and with impressive articulation; these are very worthwhile purchases for any discerning Macross fan.The design of the VF-1S, especially Roy’s version with yellow and black trim, is suitably iconic. The visor head design is also partly inspired by Gort from the original 1951 movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still.Coming in at 26,400 yen (or around $167 at the current exchange rate), this is very reasonable considering the size and transformational complexity of the toy, plus the fact it uses extensive amounts of diecast.For this price, you get a GU-11 Gun Pod, as well as two sets of hands, the aforementioned rounded-fingered version from the TV series and the blockier movie versions (shown below).
