The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing the alleged brutal assault of a trader by some police officers in the Festac area of Lagos, after the disturbing footage sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The command announced the investigation in a statement on Saturday, revealing that the officers seen in the video had been identified as personnel attached to the Area E Command.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Friday, gained national attention after the victim shared multiple videos online alleging that he was attacked by the officers while delivering a gold necklace to a customer.
In the videos, the gold seller narrated that he was stopped and searched by the officers, who found nothing incriminating on him. However, he said they became suspicious after discovering a digital scale he uses for weighing gold.
