Registration for the Government's $200 newborn baby benefit will open on Sept. 14 and close on Nov. 30, with eligible mothers set to receive financial assistance following the birth of a child.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt, who said the initiative delivers on a commitment made by the Government.
“As promised by our Government, once a new baby is born, $200 will be given directly into the hands of the baby's mother to support the child's care at the beginning of their life and for their well-being,” La’aulialemalietoa said.
The one-time payment is intended to help mothers meet the immediate needs of newborn babies during the first stage of life.
The benefit forms part of wider child welfare measures introduced in the 2026-2027 Budget.
