Police are appealing to the public for video footage and other evidence as investigations continue into the death of a rugby league player following a match at Vaiala Rugby Field on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services urged anyone who recorded the incident or has relevant footage to submit it directly to investigators or through the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services Facebook page.
Authorities acknowledged that videos of the incident are already circulating on social media but said any footage provided directly to police could play a significant role in the investigation.
"The cooperation of the public is vital in helping to maintain peace and order at sporting events and in supporting the pursuit of justice for the family of the deceased," the statement said.
The appeal follows the death of a young Marist rugby league player after a match between Marist and Apia Maroons at Vaiala Rugby Field.
