MANILA, Philippines — Former Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. has raised P1 million for bail in his ongoing malversation case, but he hasn’t settled his civil liabilities amounting to more than P124 million for plunder and graft cases over a decade ago, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Saturday.
After he posted bail, Revilla walked out of the Quezon City Jail early Friday evening on orders of the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division. The anti-graft court acquitted him of plunder in connection with the pork barrel scam in 2018 and of 16 related graft cases in 2021.
The Sandiganbayan ruled to acquit Revilla of plunder but directed him to pay P124.5 million in civil damages to the national treasury, Remulla said on his weekly radio show, “Executive Session,” on dzRH.
“Until now, the money has yet to be returned (to the government),” he said.
