The Madurai District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Aavin) has clarified that a foul odour reported in its 500 ml Delite milk packets distributed late last month stemmed from a packaging material defect rather than the milk itself.The clarification came in the wake of consumer complaints received on July 28, 2026, regarding Delite milk packets that had been dispatched the previous day.Prompted by the consumer grievances, Aavin launched a detailed technical investigation into the issue.The inquiry confirmed that the milk contents were safe and uncompromised, and that the unpleasant smell was instead caused by an improper curing process of the poly film material used to seal the packets.Swift corrective measures were taken upon identifying the root cause. The specific poly film roll responsible for the odour was immediately removed from the milk-filling production line to prevent further distribution, the statement noted.In response to the incident, Aavin has issued a formal explanation notice to the external supplier responsible for providing the defective polythene film material.Officials confirmed that appropriate regulatory actions would be initiated against the vendor based on established protocols.Reiterating its commitment to public health and consumer safety, the statement assured the public that Aavin remains steadfast in delivering quality products.Officials emphasised that all consumer feedback and complaints are reviewed on an expedited basis with necessary corrective actions implemented immediately.
