The Korattur police have arrested seven persons, including a former employee of a steel fabrication unit, for allegedly robbing ₹18.80 lakh from a staff member. A total of ₹7.25 lakh of the stolen cash has been recovered from the suspects.According to the police, Umar Farooq, 40, who runs the steel fabrication unit in Korattur, had instructed his employee Ranjith Kumar, 45, to collect ₹18.8 lakh from his brother’s house in Padi on July 25. While Ranjith was returning with the cash on a two-wheeler, six masked men intercepted him at TNHB Colony, and threatened him with knives, before fleeing with the money.According to the police, Sathish Kumar, 37, who had been dismissed from the company around six months ago, monitored Ranjith’s movements, and passed on the information to six associates from Tirunelveli, who then carried out the robbery.Following Sathish’s arrest and interrogation, the police traced and apprehended his associates.
