An employee of a private utensil company was arrested by Vyasarpadi Police for allegedly misappropriating ₹5.56 lakh after staging a fake robbery in which he claimed to have been robbed at knifepoint.According to the police, complainant Sunil Sanghvi (58), a resident of Perambur, owns a utensil store in Andal Nagar, Puzhal, and a showroom on Mint Street. On June 27, he instructed the Mint Street showroom manager, Suresh, to send ₹5.56 lakh in company cash to the Puzhal store. The manager handed over the cash to employee Anandan for transportation in a goods vehicle.Anandan later claimed that while driving near the Vyasarpadi flyover, three unidentified men travelling in an autorickshaw intercepted his vehicle, threatened him with a knife and fled with the cash.Suspicious of inconsistencies in Anandan’s statements, Sunil Sanghvi lodged a complaint with the Crime Wing of Vyasarpadi Police Station. During the inquiry, police found that Anandan had allegedly fabricated the robbery story after misappropriating the cash himself. He had reportedly concealed the money in a two-wheeler to make it appear as though it had been stolen.The police arrested Anandan (45), a resident of SM Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Vyasarpadi, on June 28.
