CHICAGO, Illinois − In their first Lollapalooza performance since 1994, The Smashing Pumpkins welcomed several guests onto the stage, including Olivia Rodrigo.The "drivers license" pop star sung the 1995 release, "Thirty-Three" alongside Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan during the second day of the music festival on Friday, July 31. Throughout the hour-and-a-half long set, alt-rock musician YUNGBLUD and former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Melissa Auf der Maur also joined the band.Coming out strong, The Smashing Pumpkins played their most popular hits, "1979" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings." For the first few seconds of Corgan’s opening lines to "1979," his microphone wasn’t working properly but the issue was fixed quickly.Lollapalooza attendees were met with on-and-off sprinkling all day but about 45 minutes into the Smashing Pumpkins' set, a consistent enough rainfall led fans to pull on ponchos, with some even leaving early.
