TACLOBAN CITY- Citing the need to conserve government funds amid the country’s energy crisis and rising cost of basic commodities, Northern Samar Rep. Niko Raul Daza has filed a bill seeking to postpone the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled in November 2026.
Daza, through House Bill No. 10407, proposed moving the nationwide barangay and youth council elections to the first Monday of November 2028 while retaining the four-year term of incumbent barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials.
The bill also provides that succeeding barangay and SK elections will be held every four years thereafter.
The proposal comes as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) prepares for the nationwide elections in November, when voters will elect village and youth council officials across the country.
