DA spokesperson on Justice and Constitutional Development Glynnis Breytenbach said that while any genuine attempt to improve South Africa's capacity to investigate and prosecute serious corruption was welcome, the measures announced simply do not go far enough.
“They seek to repair an institution whose credibility has been fundamentally undermined by the deeply disturbing evidence emerging daily before the Madlanga Commission,” Breytenbach said.
She made the statement after Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, along with National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi, announced various activities that are under way to rebuild trust and public confidence at IDAC.
These included analysing the employees’ job profiles against the CVs, all employees to undergo lifestyle audits, a full case audit on all cases, and evaluation of all cases on the court roll, as well as reviewing standard operating procedures and building internal capacity to deal with digital forensic matters.
