Amazon.com, Inc.

(NASDAQ:AMZN) is facing a proposed class-action lawsuit accusing the e-commerce and grocery giant of misleading consumers by marketing seafood products with environmental claims that allegedly overstated their sustainability.

Amazon Accused of Greenwashing Seafood Products The lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court in Seattle, challenges seafood labels and marketing language including "dolphin safe," "responsibly sourced," "sustainable," "wild caught" and "MSC Certified Sustainable Seafood," Reuters reported.

The plaintiffs argue that the claims led consumers to believe Amazon’s seafood products caused little harm to oceans and the broader environment.

However, they alleged that the sustainability representations were either unsupported or materially misleading.
