The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has dismissed reports suggesting it plans to increase electricity tariffs, insisting that the President Bola Tinubu administration has no immediate policy to raise the cost of power for consumers.
The clarification was made on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who quoted the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, as stating that the government's current priority is improving electricity supply, expanding metering and ensuring Nigerians are billed only for the power they consume.
According to Onanuga, the administration is concentrating on reforms aimed at strengthening the electricity sector rather than imposing additional financial burdens on consumers.
"There is no policy by this administration to increase electricity tariffs beyond its current level. Our priority is not tariff increase in th immediate term,” he stated.
