The President, while defending his administration’s record in the power sector, said his government had reduced the metering gap, increased electricity generation, and created a framework to stabilise the sector financially.

President Bola Tinubu has claimed that his administration has significantly improved Nigeria’s electricity supply and made major progress in addressing the country’s chronic power crisis, despite nationwide complaints by Nigerians over irregular national grid collapse, worsening blackouts, rising electricity tariffs, and protests over the continued arbitrary estimated billing under his government.

Tinubu made the claims on Sunday, in his nomination acceptance speech after emerging as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 presidential election.

The President, while defending his administration’s record in the power sector, said his government had reduced the metering gap, increased electricity generation, and created a framework to stabilise the sector financially.

He said, “We promised an improved power supply and an end to estimated billing. In the past three years, we have closed the metering gap by supplying 2.5 million meters via the Presidential Metering Initiative.
