The M64 retro console officially launched on July 28th and is entering the market as a replica of the Nintendo 64 in a semi-transparent housing in four different colors.
The device aims to reproduce the original gaming experience as faithfully as possible, but thanks to modern hardware, it also supports higher resolutions and an overclocking mode for a more stable frame rate. Inside, an AMD Artix UltraScale+ FPGA is used, manufactured using 16-nanometer technology. Thanks to a fanless cooling design, the console is said to operate completely silently.
Original Nintendo 64 cartridges from all regions are supported, as are the original controllers. Alternatively, modern wireless alternatives such as the 8BitDo 64 controllers or ModRetro's own N64 replica, the M64 Pro Controller in the classic trident design, can be purchased. It works with and without a cable and comes in the same colors as the console, but is sold separately. The Expansion Pak and Controller Pak are already integrated into the M64 and do not need to be inserted separately; Controller Pak support is said to follow later. As with the original, up to four controllers can be connected simultaneously for local multiplayer split-screen.
