United Nations (EFE).- United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the agreement on Friday to disarm Hamas in Gaza. He urged an end to latent conflicts in the Middle East, asserting that «the world cannot afford more war.»

«The only good news in recent days is the announcement by the US president of an agreement for Hamas to relinquish their weapons and for Israel to withdraw its forces from Gaza,» Guterres stated outside the Security Council during a briefing regarding his upcoming trip to Syria and Cyprus.

The Board of Peace, established by US President Donald Trump to resolve conflicts, beginning with Gaza, announced an agreement on Thursday for the «genuine disarmament» of Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups in the enclave.

Guterres, along with his special envoys and Middle East coordinators, has repeatedly urged both parties to advance the implementation of the Gaza peace plan. This plan, proposed by the Board and ratified by the UN, includes the disarmament of these groups.

It also mandates the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Gaza, the deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF), and the transfer of government responsibilities to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
