Donald Trump has announced what he has called an “historic” agreement for the phased, complete disarmament of Hamas – to be overseen by his ‘Board of Peace’ – alongside a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Senior Hamas negotiators confirmed they have agreed to the roadmap to save civilian lives, but insisted they will not hand over weapons until Israeli forces have fully pulled out of Gaza.
The announcement has been met with scepticism in Israel, with hardline politicians demanding full demilitarisation as a prerequisite.
