Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi has requested the public to avoid non-essential travel within the city on August 1 between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., and again between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., as heavy traffic congestion is expected due to the movement of VIPs and the large gathering expected for the Alluri Sitarama Raju Airport inaugural event, to be held at Bhogapuram on Saturday, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending.With around 3 lakh people expected to attend the programme in around 10,000 buses, the city police have made elaborate traffic arrangements.Mr. Bagchi said that a large contingent of personnel from the Traffic, Law and Order, Crime, Armed Reserve (AR) and Home Guards wings have been deployed for the programme. Special focus has been placed on VIP security, green corridors, parking management and regulating pedestrian and vehicular movement. Additional traffic personnel, towing vehicles, breakdown recovery vehicles, ambulances and emergency response teams will be stationed at key locations to handle any contingencies. He said that to facilitate public transportation, district and constituency-wise routes have been designated for special buses.Diversions & RestrictionsThe CP said that traffic restrictions will be in force on August 1 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Heavy and goods vehicles arriving from the Anakapalli side will not be permitted to enter the city from Lankelapalem. Similarly, heavy and goods vehicles coming from the Srikakulam and Vizianagaram directions will not be allowed to enter the city in the same period.Hundreds of buses are set to leave with people to attend the programme from all the constituencies in the district. Buses from Anakapalli district will travel via the Express Flyover, PSL Junction, Anandapuram and Rajapulova to reach the venue. Buses from Bheemunipatnam will operate via Madhurawada, Anandapuram, Tagarapuvalasa and Rajapulova.For Visakhapatnam East constituency, buses from Arilova will pass through Hanumanthuwaka, Adavivaram, Sontyam, Anandapuram, Tagarapuvalasa and Rajapulova. Buses from Visakhapatnam West, Gajuwaka and Pendurthi constituencies will travel via NAD/Pendurthi, Saripalli Flyover, Service Road, Rajiv Nagar Underpass, PSL Junction, Anandapuram and Rajapulova.Separate parking arrangements have been made for VIP vehicles. Vehicles carrying VIPs will enter the airport premises through the service gate near Sun Ray Resorts from Savaravilli Junction and proceed directly to the designated VIP parking area.
