Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar on Friday congratulated the people of Tamil Nadu for recording 4.93 crore votes in the recent Assembly elections, describing it as the highest number of votes polled in the State since Independence. He also lauded voters for achieving nearly 86% voter turnout, calling it the highest polling percentage in Tamil Nadu since Independence.Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore International Airport, Mr. Kumar said he was in the city with his wife, Anuradha, to attend the convocation at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.He described Coimbatore as one of South India's fastest-growing cities, highlighting its world-class education system, textile industry and engineering excellence. He added that the people of Tamil Nadu, particularly Coimbatore, could take pride in the serene Western Ghats and the region's rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
