A district and sessions and fast-track court in Mangaluru sentenced a 20-year-old man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a total fine of ₹65,000 on Friday on charges of repeatedly raping a minor girl.Additional District and Sessions and Fast-Track Court II Special Judge K.S. Manu passed the orders of conviction and sentence against Maclin Noronha, son of Gilbert Noronha and a resident of Divinagara, Kunjathbail, in the city. Noronha was convicted of rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and of penetrative sexual assault and storing child sexual exploitative and abuse material under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.According to the chargesheet, Noronha had an affair with the victim from February 2024, often visiting the rented house where she was staying with her parents at Shaktinagar and later Alape. He repeatedly raped the victim till June 2025 and blackmailed her with bathing videos and photographs recorded on his mobile phone. He also threatened to kill the victim’s mother and elder sister if she did not continue the physical relationship.The then Kankanady Town police inspector conducted the investigation and submitted the chargesheet, while special public prosecutor Sahana Devi conducted the prosecution.
