Very recently, South Africa and one of its fellow BRICS members, Russia, decided to strengthen their bilateral relationship.
Discussions surrounding this objective were led by South Africa’s military chief, Lieutenant General Lawrence Mbatha, who met with Russian military officials during his second official visit to the Euro-Asian country.
The conversations focused on High-level cooperative initiatives to improve combat preparedness, including future visits to Russian defense companies and military institutions.
Russia's Ministry of Defense claims that both parties agreed to increase cooperation in a number of areas and discussed collaborative military initiatives targeted at enhancing the combat capability of their respective forces.
Colonel General Alexander Matovnikov, Russia's Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces, participated in the talks.
