South Africa and Russia have agreed to strengthen cooperation between their land forces following high-level military talks in Moscow.
Lieutenant General Lawrence Mbatha, Chief of the South African Army, met with Russian military officials during his second official visit to the country.
According to Russia's Ministry of Defence, both sides discussed joint military projects aimed at improving the combat readiness of their respective armies and agreed to expand cooperation across multiple areas.
Mbatha is leading a South African military delegation that is also scheduled to visit Russian military academies and defence companies during the trip, according to Reuters.
The discussions were held with Colonel General Alexander Matovnikov, Russia's Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces. Russia's Defence Ministry said the meeting resulted in agreements to deepen collaboration between the two armies, although it did not disclose specific projects or timelines.
