Five days ago, Leeds United’s friendly with Wrexham allowed Harry Wilson to shine in his first 45 minutes. Then, in the early hours of this morning, the Wales international was less involved in a 1-0 win over Sunderland. It’s wrong to draw lasting conclusions during pre-season, but, just as Wilson did on his debut, Tarik Muharemovic impressed in his Leeds bow. The 23-year-old started on the left of a back-three, with Sebastiaan Bornauw inside him and Joe Rodon on the right.Manager Daniel Farke made a series of substitutions at half time and during the second period, but Muharemovic played more minutes than any other outfield player. He was eventually withdrawn in the 86th minute for youngster Charlie Crew.Leeds have committed more than £34million to the deal for Muharemovic. It’s an investment which has to pay off in a position where the club lost his dependable predecessor, Pascal Struijk. And as Farke mentioned to reporters after the match, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international only has one top-flight season to his name. The jury will remain out on Muharemovic until he has a wedge of Premier League minutes behind him, but this was a promising first step at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. He was physical, aggressive, composed, aware and showed an eye for a pass, too.In the 17th minute, as Enzo Le Fee went to pressure him on the edge of the Leeds area, Muharemovic was able to spin away and find the first of two good passes out of danger in quick succession. There was a let-off a few moments later as Sunderland got in down United’s right flank. This was also their weak point in the Wrexham game.
