Israel accuses Spain of double standards, points to its continued control of 5 African territories claimed by Morocco

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations has accused Spain of hypocrisy over the Ceuta migration crisis, drawing attention to Madrid’s continued control of several territories in North Africa claimed by Morocco.

Spain, one of Israel’s strongest European critics over Palestine, is facing renewed scrutiny over its territorial presence in Africa, where Morocco claims Ceuta, Melilla and several smaller Spanish-controlled outposts.

Against that backdrop, Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon, used the migration crisis to question Spain’s continued control of African territory.

Writing on X, he said:

“Spain, which never misses an opportunity to lecture Israel, has declared a state of emergency in Ceuta following the crisis over its immigration policy.”
