With the cascading jackpot mechanism in play, players have a unique opportunity to share in this massive prize pool.
One or more South Africans are guaranteed to share in a combined estimated R76 million in PowerBall and PowerBall Xtra prize money this week as the National Lottery's cascading jackpot mechanism comes into effect.
After four consecutive weeks without a jackpot winner, the estimated R52 million PowerBall jackpot and estimated R24 million PowerBall Xtra jackpot will cascade on Friday night, guaranteeing that the prize money is paid out.
If no player matches all the winning numbers to claim the jackpot, the prize will automatically roll down to the next winning division. Should there still be no winner, it will continue cascading through the prize divisions until the money is won.
Sizekhaya, operator of the National Lottery, said the cascading mechanism exists to ensure that substantial prize pools are paid out rather than continuing to roll over for weeks and sometimes months on end.
