Local singer Jimmy Nevis performs ‘AK87’, his song dedicated to the late activist Ashley Kriel. A photo of Kriel was projected in the background during the performance this week.
Cape Town singer Jimmy Nevis debuted his new song ‘AK87’ to honour anti-apartheid activist Ashley Kriel who was killed in Bonteheuwel when he was 20 years old in 1987.
Nevis has not yet released the song, which he performed at his concert ‘Roses & Thorns’ at the Homecoming Centre in central Cape Town on Thursday night.
Nevis had contacted local documentary filmmaker Nadine Cloete for more details on Kriel. She released her film about Kriel, ‘Action Kommandant’, in 2016.
Nevis said he had watched Cloete’s documentary and had been “inspired by Ashley for a while now”.
