Routine United States visa services in Durban will be transferred to regional processing hubs from August 1, 2026.
The United States Department of State will realign routine visa services in Durban and 24 other African locations to regional visa hubs from August 1, 2026.
The move is part of a broader restructuring of the department's visa operations across Africa, which it says is designed to strengthen national security, improve efficiency and promote more consistent screening, vetting and adjudication standards, the US Consulate said.
According to the department, the regional hub model has already been implemented successfully in several African countries as well as in Europe.
From August 1, citizens and residents seeking to apply for a US visa in the affected countries will be required to schedule an appointment and pay the applicable visa fee at their designated regional non-immigrant or immigrant visa processing hub.
