Doctors at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital, Siruvachur, Perambalur, recently performed a complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery on a three-year-old child suffering from a ruptured appendix with multiple life-threatening complications.The child has made a complete recovery and has been discharged in good health.According to a press release on Friday, the patient was admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. Detailed clinical evaluation revealed a perforated appendicitis, appendicular mass, intra-abdominal abscess, and a large faecolith.Considering the child’s age, the surgical team decided to perform the procedure using the more challenging laparoscopic technique. The surgical team, led by paediatric surgeon K. Karuppaiah, carried out the emergency procedure on July 25. The team carefully released the intestinal adhesions, removed the diseased appendix, and thoroughly cleaned the abdominal cavity, all through the laparoscopic approach.Following the surgery, the child recovered smoothly without any complications.
