A man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea near Frinton.The incident occurred at around 2pm on Thursday off The Esplanade, a long road that stretches across the seafront in the Essex town, police have said.Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man died and his body was brought to shore.The victim's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Emergency services remain at the scene. An air ambulance was spotted on the beach this afternoon.Essex Police have asked the public to avoid the area where possible. A spokesperson for the force said: 'Emergency services continue to respond to an incident in Frinton.'Shortly before 2.10pm on Thursday 30 July, Essex Police was contacted by ambulance service colleagues who reported that a man had got into difficulty in the sea off The Esplanade and had been brought ashore. An air ambulance was spotted near the water on Thursday afternoon The man was brought to shore and paramedics attempted to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene'Despite the best efforts of all those involved in the response, very sadly the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.'His family have been informed and are being supported by our officers.'Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.'Emergency service personnel remain at the scene and our response is continuing.'We would ask members of the public to avoid the area wherever possible to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely and effectively.' Earlier on Thursday an air ambulance was spotted landing close to Esplanade with several other ambulances and HM Coastguard also at the scene.Terry Allen, a councillor in Frinton, told the Clacton Gazette: 'I don't know what is going on, I don't know if it is the weather or what.'I followed the ambulance and police into Frinton as I was on the way back. I knew there was something serious, it is just shocking.'Frinton resident Mike Swansea, who was on the promenade when the incident occurred, said: 'Everybody is in shock, it was awful to see. The ambulance and police forces were rushing up the promenade. They were here for about two hours. With a helicopter too.'A spokesperson for HM Coastguard told the Daily Mail: 'HM Coastguard responded to an incident on the beach at Frinton-on-Sea, reported at about 2.05pm on 30 July, by sending Coastguard Rescue Teams from Clacton, Walton and Holbrook.'Lifeguards, East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Police attended.'A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: 'We were called just after 2pm with reports of a man in difficulty in the water in Frinton-on-Sea. 'We dispatched two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance to the scene. 'Sadly, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.' This is a breaking story. More to follow.
