Andon Labs has released the results of new AI tests. They simulated operating a vending machine to see which model could run a business the best, and it’s a great reminder that CEOs may be the easiest jobs to replace in the AI revolution. Even if tech executives like Sam Altman insist they’re the last ones who should be replaced. “Claude Opus 5 is the best AI capitalist we’ve tested, making more money running our simulated vending machine than any other AI,” the research lab wrote in an update to its Vending-Bench tests. “However, it also lies, forms illegal cartels, threatens rivals, and refuses to pay refunds.” Entire books could be written about the use of the word “however” in that sentence. In fact, one of them is already pretty famous. Andon ran its tests with Anthropic’s Opus 5, OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol, and Moonshot’s Kimi K3. The lab previously found that Claude Opus 4.6 was exceptional, but it didn’t perform as well after the release of Opus 4.8. The reason was easy to see: Anthropic had removed the training that “focused on business skills and robustness against adversarial agents.” That business training contributed to dishonest dealings, according to Andon Labs, which made it better at making money.
AI Will Make a Perfect CEO One Day
Would the world notice if OpenAI was run by a chatbot?
Claude Opus 5 maximized profits in Andon Labs' tests but formed cartels and refused refunds. Foundation models trained on real business data replicate illegal behavior, raising urgent governance and accountability concerns for AI deployment in strategic decision-making roles.
