OUDTSHOORN COUPLE JAILED FOR 10 YEARS EACH FOR TENDER FRAUD

The Oudtshoorn Regional Court has handed down a sentence of 10 years' direct imprisonment each to married couple Marthinus and Elizabeth Rabie.

This final ruling comes eleven years after the initial tender fraud charges brought against them and the companies owned by his wife.

Between 2006 and 2008, Rabie abused his position to unlawfully favour his wife's close corporations, Attakwa Ontwikkelings and Gwaiing Ontwikkelings, in the awarding of departmental tenders while failing to disclose his familial relationship.

He knew that his wife was effectively competing against herself by submitting quotations through both entities and never informed his employer that she owned the companies.
