The Department of Medical Gastroenterology of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) organised a Liver Health awareness programme at Bharathidasan Government College for Women here recently, as part of the World Hepatitis Day 2026, to educate students on viral hepatitis, liver disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.According to a Jipmer press note, K. Senthamizh Selvan, Additional Professor, Department of Medical Gatroenterology, spoke on viral hepatitis, its modes of transmission, preventive measures, the importance of Hepatitis B vaccination, and the need for early screening and timely treatment to prevent serious complications.Pazhanivel Mohan, Professor and Head, Department of Medical Gastroenterology, spoke on the rising prevalence of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), and the role of balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, healthy body weight, and periodic health check-ups in preventing liver disease.The programme concluded with an interactive session with the students.
