There is uncertainty surrounding the livelihoods of journalists and employees at The Herald and Daily Dispatch because they have not yet received their July salaries.

Journalists and staff at the Daily Dispatch and The Herald have reportedly not yet received their July salaries and remain uncertain about when payment will be made.

This has prompted the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) to express concern.

SANEF said it understood that Ubuntu Media Holdings, the new owners, were expected to pay these salaries after acquiring the Eastern Cape newspapers, including community media titles, from Arena Holdings in May.

‘’SANEF has always stated that employers across the media industry need to put journalists first, and know that their work does not come for free.
