X just became a bank. Well, sort of.
The platform formerly known as Twitter has rolled out X Money, an in-app digital wallet and peer-to-peer payment service that lets US users send money to each other, pay bills, and manage deposits directly inside the app. It’s the first major American social media platform to embed this level of banking functionality, and it represents the clearest signal yet that Elon Musk’s “everything app” ambitions aren’t just talk.
Here’s the thing, though. For a platform run by one of crypto’s most famous cheerleaders, X Money launched with zero cryptocurrency support. None. Not even a whisper of a token.
How X Money actually works
The service is currently available only to X Premium and X Premium+ subscribers, which means the average free-tier user scrolling through posts won’t see it yet. Those who do have access can send and receive money, set up deposit accounts, initiate wire transfers, and even get a Visa debit card.
