Police have rearrested former Awami League Presidium member and freedom fighter Abdul Latif Siddiqui in a crimes against humanity case over the 2013 Hifazat-e Islam rally at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch chief Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said Siddiqui was arrested in Gulshan around 6:30pm on Wednesday and taken to the DB office.
The arrest followed Siddiqui's appearance before a Dhaka court earlier in the day, where he acknowledged an arrest warrant had been issued against him.
Siddiqui was previously detained after he and other speakers came under a “mob” attack during a discussion on the Liberation War and the Constitution at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Aug 28, 2025.
He was later shown arrested in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act filed with Shahbagh Police and secured bail from the lower and higher courts on Nov 6, 2025. Since then, he had appeared before the court as required.
