Mr JazziQ and MFR Souls are among the Amapiano stars opening up about the genre’s journey in SABC1’s new documentary series, 'For The Culture: I Am'.
Amapiano has gone from being the soundtrack of kasi (township) groove to one of South Africa’s biggest cultural exports.
The genre has managed to top international charts, filled venues around the world, inspired dance trends across social media and opened doors for a new generation of artists to perform on some of the world’s biggest stages.
While millions know the music, far fewer know the stories behind the people who helped build the movement.
Those stories are now taking centre stage as SABC1 has announced “For The Culture: I Am”, a 13-part documentary series premiering on Sunday, August 2, at 5.30pm.
