From August 1, Bulgaria will increase vignette prices by 30%, with the government expecting additional revenues of more than €22.5 million in 2026 and over €54 million annually in the following years. The change was approved through a government decree amending the fees for using the national road network.
The higher prices will apply to passenger vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons and category M1 camping vehicles. These fees have remained unchanged since the introduction of the electronic vignette system in 2019.
The annual vignette will rise from €49.60 to €64.50, while the quarterly vignette will increase from €27.61 to €35.90. The monthly vignette will cost €19.90 instead of €15.34, and the weekly vignette will go up from €7.67 to €10. The weekend vignette will increase from €5.11 to €6.60, while the newly introduced daily vignette price will rise from €4.09 to €5.30.
The compensatory fee for vehicles that use the road network without a valid vignette will also increase, from €35.79 to €46.50.
The government said the additional revenue is needed because a large part of Bulgaria’s road infrastructure requires urgent investment. Technical inspections have shown that more than 35% of the country’s second- and third-class roads, or more than 7,000 kilometers, are in poor or unsatisfactory condition.
