A new Disney+ documentary highlights six of the UK's most high-profile criminal cases.11:45, 30 Jul 2026A new true crime series has highlighted the case of Mahek Bukhari as one of the most notorious crime investigations.20/20 Britain's Most Notorious Crime Investigations is on Disney+ and the six-part series delves into different criminal cases from across the UK.One of which is that of TikTok killer Mahek Bukhari, a formal social media influencer who went by the name May B and posted lifestyle and beauty videos.After dropping out of university to pursue social media work full time, she went on to collaborate with big brands like PrettyLittleThing and H&M.Her mother, Ansreen, would also feature heavily in her videos, having helped boost her social media career.Back in 2023, she and her mother were convicted of the murders of two men following a car crash in Leicestershire, and the case has been revisited in various documentaries including TikTok: Murder Gone Viral. Here's all you need to know about what happened.What did Mahek and Ansreen Bukhari do?Mahek Bukhari, who was 22 years old at the time of her crime, was convicted of the murders of Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin, as was her mother Ansreen.Saqib had been involved in a relationship with Ansreen from 2019, which ended after about three years.However, Saqib then started contacting Ansreen, making demands for money and threatening to expose photos of their relationship. As for Hashim, he was a friend of Saqib.In February 2022, the two friends travelled to Leicester, planning to meet with Ansreen to retrieve some money and settle the dispute.Ansreen and her daughter, along with several others, arranged to confront them and a car chase ensued along the A46 dual carriageway.The chase involved cars driven by Mahek's friends, and the victims' car was forced off the road, where it struck the central reservation and caught fire, killing both of them.The trailer for 20/20 Britain's Most Notorious Crime Investigations says of the case: "Behind this glamorous social media life, there was something very, very dark.""Mahek Bukhari was a glamorous TikTok influencer and she says 'Watch what I'm going to do to you'."Where are Mahek and Ansreen Bukhari now?In August 2023, after a 10-week trial, the jury found the mother and daughter guilty of two counts of murder.Mahek was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 31 years and 8 months, however in 2025 the term was cut to 26 years and 285 days, after appeal judges agreed the sentence had not taken into account her young age.Meanwhile, her mother Ansreen was sentenced to 26 years and nine months. Both mother and daughter remain in prison as they continue to serve their sentences.During the trial, Leicester Crown Court heard Saqib had been "lured" into meeting the Bukharis, believing he would be given back £3,000 he said he had spent on taking Ansreen out during their relationship.Instead of meeting Ansreen, he and friend Hashim were ambushed and then chased by two cars.Article continues below20/20 Britain's Most Notorious Crime Investigations is on Disney+
