The Portfolio Committee on Police says it will call the SAPS to justify the R600 million funding strategy deployed to manage nationwide anti-foreigner unrest.

The SAPS is expected to clarify the methodology behind the R600 million allocated to counter the nationwide anti-migrant protests and maintain public order on June 30, 2026.

The Parliament Portfolio Committee on Police said the issue is still to come before the committee, where the SAPS will be expected to detail how they have arrived at the projected amount.

This comes a month after the SAPS announced a massive R600m special security operation to counter nationwide anti-migrant unrest.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia had announced that the heavily funded mobilisation was necessary to protect critical infrastructure, monitor social media threats and prevent a recurrence of widespread, violent civil unrest.
