Coinbase’s newly appointed Vice Chair wants everyone to know: the war is over. Now comes the hard part of actually building something with the peace.

Ryan VanGrack, who took over as Coinbase’s first-ever Vice Chair and head of corporate affairs on July 9, 2026, has framed the company’s regulatory posture in strikingly different terms than his predecessor. Instead of courtroom battles and enforcement actions, VanGrack is talking about growth, innovation, and a crypto industry that no longer needs to fight for its right to exist.

From litigation trenches to the one-yard line

VanGrack described the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, better known as the CLARITY Act, as having “tremendous momentum” with bipartisan Senate support. He went further, saying the bill is “on the one-yard line.”

The CLARITY Act aims to establish a federal regulatory framework that draws clear jurisdictional lines between the SEC and CFTC when it comes to digital assets. VanGrack emphasized that clear federal rules would enable proper oversight, investor protection, and US leadership in digital assets, all goals that the previous regime of enforcement-first regulation struggled to achieve.
