At least three people, including a minor, have reportedly been killed after a civilian, identified as Awal Dan Haza, led Nigerian soldiers and vigilantes to Randagi community in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where residents resisting the removal of equipment from a disputed gold mining site were reportedly shot.
The deadly incident, which has stirred outrage in the community, reportedly occurred despite warnings from both the Emir of Birnin Gwari and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) against carrying out the operation at the mining site, which residents say had already been awarded to another claimant, Abubakar Mahori, following an earlier dispute.
